A 'Complete the story' prompt

“AFTER TWENTY YEARS” by O.HENRY Provide your imaginative ending to the given story. Note: Word limit - 250- 350 words Jimmy Wells and ‘Silky’ Bob -were thick childhood friends. However, once Bob left to pursue his fortunes in the West, the two eventually lost touch. Nevertheless, they had promised to meet each other in 20 years, to the hour, after their last dinner together at the same spot in New York City. Jimmy Wells became a Cop wherein Bob turned out to be an outlaw. Twenty years later, Bob was waiting outside where the restaurant once stood when he and Jimmy parted ways; the latter, who’s now a policeman, comes upon him while he’s walking his beat. After hearing Bob’s story about the friends’ pledge to meet up again and watching him light up a cigar, Jimmy recognizes it’s Bob. To his shock, he also realizes that his friend is a fugitive from Chicago, whom he’d seen earlier on a police bulletin. So this was the ending I had given: …Veiling his shock like the tough cop he is,...

Lo-Fi is the new Hi-Fi

Image
"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything," said Plato. The music industry strives to live up to this quote, and many new music creators are coming up with new content every day. Lo-fi is the newest trend and looks like it's here to stay. Read on to know why. What is lo-fi? According to its creator Eric Matthews, lo-fi is short for "low fidelity", which is a term used to define the music that contains elements that are conventionally regarded as imperfections or flawed. This type of sound recording has technical flaws that make them sound different from the live sound that gets recorded by adding distortion, hums, background noise and low-frequency response. Music producers now make these flaws as calculated aesthetic decisions and we have a player of our favourite song in this new version. And guess what? It is a hit with the youth. Why is Lo-fi trending? The world today has started to acknowledge...

How to W.R.A.P decisions in Life

Image
Every living being in this universe is subjected to make decisions for their survival - be it an ant and or a humpback whale. Fortunately, humans are the only beings gifted with the power of discrimination of understanding what is right or wrong for us and making a decision accordingly. Decisions can either be positive or otherwise but the quality of your decisions will determine how deeply they would impact your life. Chip and Dan Heath, in their book ' Decisive: How to Make Better Choices in Life and Work', talk about a Framework called W.R.A.P for making better decisions WRAP consists of four elements: W- Widen your options R- Reality test your assumptions A- Attain distance before deciding P- Prepare to be wrong Widen your options There is a misconception that having a lot of options can lead to confusion and is as same as seeing only the big picture. So, people narrow their frames of you and often lose possible options that could have worked better for them. You can star...

Pomodoro Technique for productive study/work

Image
" Time and tide wait for none". No matter how many times we hear or see this clichéd quote, not all of us actually understand the essence of these words. Time management is an essential skill for aspirants of all kinds. In this fast-evolving world, one must keep up par with others to achieve their goal. The fact that smart work is better than hard work is of the essence. Productivity is smart work. One such method to maintain productivity in our daily life is the Pomodoro technique. Pomodoro technique is a time management method where a timer is used to break down the work at hand into intervals, separated by short breaks. This method was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. Each interval is called a 'Pomodoro' the Italian word for tomato, the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a college student. The original technique has 6 steps 1. Choose a task you would like to get done No matter how small or big the task is, it deserves your full undi...

The Choice factor

Image
That brisk strut with billowing robes behind. That almost sneering smirk under his hooked nose. That voice lashes out at people in the most subtle way possible. That is Severus Tobias Snape, Potion Master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding, the dour ’bat’ of the dungeons. But my hero-worship for this misunderstood man has made me reflect on one of the important lessons for life-The Choice Factor. Although Snape's passion for the Dark Arts and the Dark Mark on his arm, along with his air of intimidation and sharp tongue attributes to his 'villain' aura, the choices that he made speak differently about his true character. The choices that he made say it all. It is not so surprising how similarly Snape and Voldemort are portrayed throughout the series. Both men had strikingly similar parentage; with muggle fathers and pureblood mothers and a miserable childhood. They also shared a common passion for the Dark Arts and even went on to pursue the same goals as adult...
